Privacy policy

OtterSlide is an endless game. It plays fully without an account — but if you want to appear on the leaderboard or add friends, you can create one. Only then do we hold any data about you, and this policy says exactly what.

1. Playing without an account

Without signing up, nothing is sent to us:

  • Best score and settings stay on your device only
  • No name, no email address, no login

One exception, so you can see where you would stand: to show your hypothetical rank, the app sends the score you reached once to our server. It is used for that one calculation and not stored.

2. If you create an account

There are two kinds:

  • Guest account — a display name and nothing else. No email, no password. It lives on this device and cannot be recovered.
  • Full account — additionally an email address and a password, which makes it usable on other devices and recoverable.

A guest account can be upgraded later, keeping its name and rank.

We then store:

  • Display name
  • Email address — full accounts only
  • Best score and the scores of individual runs
  • Achievements you have unlocked
  • Friends and pending friend requests
  • A private friend code others can use to add you
  • Ad-free status — whether you bought it

The account is a Balane account: it works across all our games. A friend you add in OtterSlide is also your friend in another Balane game.

Data NOT collected:

  • No analytics, no tracking, no telemetry
  • No crash reports to external servers
  • No location data (beyond the coarse origin the ad network derives from your IP — see 5)
  • No contacts, no photos, no microphone
  • No payment data

3. What other players can see

Your display name and your best score are public. They appear on the leaderboard, and anyone can search for the beginning of a name to send a friend request.

Not visible to others: your email address, your friend code and your list of friends.

Choose your display name accordingly — it is public.

4. Where data is stored

  • Locally on your device: settings, best score, purchase receipt
  • In our database: the account data listed under 2, hosted with Supabase, Inc. in a data centre in Frankfurt, Germany. Supabase is a US company; we have a data processing agreement with them including the EU standard contractual clauses.

5. Advertising

The free version is funded by Google AdMob. To deliver and measure ads, Google processes device and advertising identifiers, the approximate origin derived from your IP address, and interaction and diagnostic data — as a separate controller.

  • Only non-personalized ads are served
  • The app does not request tracking permission (no ATT prompt on iOS)
  • Advertising data is not linked to your account
  • Buying "Remove Ads" ends this processing entirely

6. In-App Purchases

"Remove Ads" is a one-time purchase, not a subscription. Payment, billing, refunds and restore are handled entirely by the Apple App Store or Google Play; we never receive payment or identity data.

The store receipt is verified on our server against Apple or Google so the purchase can be attached to your account. Without signing in, ads are removed on that device alone and nothing is sent to us.

Purchases are per store: buying on Apple does not unlock a Google Play install.

7. Emails

The only email the app can trigger is a password reset you asked for. It is sent through Brevo (Sendinblue GmbH, Germany), which receives your email address for that purpose. We send no newsletters and no marketing email.

8. Deleting your account

In the app, your profile has a "Delete account" button. It removes your account, name, email, scores, achievements and friendships permanently, without going through us.

Note: it deletes your entire Balane account, not just your OtterSlide data.
